How to Make Veneers Last

Ceramic doesn't decay — but everything around it can. A practical maintenance guide.

4 min readMedically reviewed

Well-made porcelain veneers routinely last fifteen years or more. Failure is almost never the ceramic — it is the interface between the veneer and the natural tooth beneath it.

Daily protocols

  • Non-abrasive toothpaste and a soft brush
  • Interdental cleaning to protect the gumline margins
  • A nightguard if bruxism is present

Avoidable forces

Chewing ice, opening packaging with the front teeth, and untreated grinding are the leading causes of ceramic fracture.
