The Case for Minimal-Prep Veneers
Modern ceramics let clinicians remove less enamel — and, in some cases, none at all.
Historical veneer protocols reduced significant amounts of enamel. Modern lithium disilicate ceramics — combined with digital planning and adhesive dentistry — allow far more conservative preparation.
How thin?
Contemporary veneers can be fabricated as thin as 0.3–0.5 mm. In selected cases, "no-prep" veneers can be bonded to unaltered enamel.
When more preparation is still right
Discolored, misaligned, or oddly shaped teeth may require modest reduction to achieve the correct final position. The goal is not zero preparation — it is the least preparation that produces a lasting, natural result.
