The living connection between titanium and bone — and why it takes months, not days.
Osseointegration is the direct structural and functional connection between living bone and the surface of a load-bearing implant. It is what makes a titanium post feel — after healing — like a natural tooth root.
The biological timeline
Immediately after placement, a blood clot forms around the implant. Over the following weeks, osteoblasts migrate to the surface and deposit new bone. Full integration typically takes three to six months, depending on bone density and surgical protocol.

- Bone quality and volume at the site
- Primary stability at the moment of placement
- Systemic health: diabetes, smoking, and certain medications alter healing
- Micro-motion during the healing phase
Why patience is the treatment
A rushed restoration on an incompletely integrated implant is the most common preventable failure. Modern imaging and stability testing let clinicians confirm — objectively — that the biology is ready.
